100’s Missing, 100’s Dead In Sri Lanka Mudslides & Floods

Over 1/2 Million People Have Been Displaced and Counting.
The death tolls are yet to be numbered.

Some news outlets reporting up to 100 in just 1 village. Many villages have been completely buried. Humanitarian aid has been coming from all sides.

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — The death toll from landslides and floods in Sri Lanka as a result of weeklong heavy storms has risen to 92, officials said Sunday.

Soldiers searching for victims of landslides that buried three villages in the central hills pulled out eight bodies from the rubble, the Disaster Management Center said, adding that 109 people were still missing in the landslides.

Colombo, Sri Lanka (CNN) At least 71 people have died following days of torrential rains and mudslides in Sri Lanka, officials said.

Rescuers are searching for 127 others reported missing after mud and rock buried residential areas, the nation’s Disaster Management Center said. The rains and floods have hit most parts of the nation all week.

Some of the worst-hit areas include the suburbs of Colombo, where Kelani River passes through before ending in the Indian Ocean. In Wellampitiya suburb, police said water levels stood at over eight feet after four days of rains.
