Three brave American citizens managed to tackle and hogtie a heavily armed terrorist on a train in France today; saving countless lives. The shooter, “a 26-year-old of Moroccan origins”, is being questioned by French authorities and his motives “remain unclear, but Belgian Prime Minister Jean Michel described the incident as a terrorist attack.”(Washington Post, 2015)

Witnesses said the terrorist came out of the restroom “heavily armed”.

These three heroes jumped to action immediately, disarming the 26 year-old Moroccan and striking him with his own AK-47. “Alek said that they were about 30 feet away and ran for him, and Spencer, the friend, got him down, and Alek took the gun and knocked him a few times with the butt of the gun,” said Skarlatos’s stepmother, Karen Skarlatos, by telephone. Karen Skarlatos then said that the man drew a pistol and attempted to use it. However, he was again disarmed. The man then pulled out an edged weapon and managed to hurt Spencer Stone, an Air Force serviceman before finally being subdued and hogtied.

Aren’t guns outlawed in France?

Guns don't kill people. People kill people.Guns aren’t completely outlawed in France but it’s pretty close to an outright ban.

According to Wikipedia:

“In France, to buy a firearm, a hunting license or a shooting sport license is necessary. All semi-automatic rifles with a capacity greater than 3 rounds, all handguns and all rifles chambered in ‘military’ calibers, including bolt action, require permits. These are known as B1, B2 and B4 type permits. Firearms are divided into eight categories that determine the regulations that apply to their possession and use. France also sets limits on the number of cartridges that can be kept at home (1000 rounds per gun).

The total number of firearms owned by an individual is also subject to limits (not possible to have more than 12 authorizations/permits on B1, B2 and B4 type firearms).[91] As of September, 2013, France has a capacity limit of 20 rounds for handguns;[92] one needs a permit for category one[clarification needed] semi-automatics that have a capacity greater than 3 rounds. Fully automatic firearms are illegal for civilian ownership.”

Why didn’t France’s strict gun control prevent this?

Taking the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens puts everyone at risk. Criminals will always break gun control laws… They are criminals! Statistics actually show that as gun ownership goes up in an area, crime rates go down. With that in mind, everyone should get a gun because it will help make the world safer! Now go buy yourself a gun and learn how to protect yourselves.
