LGBT Under Attack: Second Terrorist Attack In L.A. Stopped

Authorities in Santa Monica found possible explosives as well as weapons and ammunition Sunday in the car of a man who told them he was in town for the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood, a law enforcement source said.

The arrest comes just hours after a shooter opened fire on a gay nightclub in Orlando, killing 50 people and wounding at least 53 more before dying in a firefight with police.

While investigating a suspected prowler, Santa Monica patrol officers on Sunday encountered an individual who said he was waiting for a friend, The LA Times reported. When officers inspected the man’s car, they found the weapons and ammunition cache as well as tannerite, a binary explosive that could be used to create a pipe bomb.

The FBI have taken over the investigation.

James Wesley Howell, 20, of Indiana was arrested about 5 a.m. after neighbors reported suspicious behavior on the street where he was parked the wrong way in a white sedan, Santa Monica police said in a statement, according to CBS Los Angeles.
