This frightening incident happened at the mosque on Bintliff and De Moss, near Bellaire.
Mohammed Imaduddin, a spokesperson for the mosque, says a doctor who attends services at the mosque was on his way to the 5:30am morning prayers when he was approached by three people on foot.
The victim had parked along the street and was walking towards the mosque when he was approached by three people on foot, according to Imaduddin.
At one point, someone allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the man.
HPD says they expect the man to survive the attack. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment.
Imaduddin says sadly that there were children outside the mosque when the shooting occurred. Witnesses also say the doctor was not robbed.
Investigators say there is no motive known for the attack.
“It is very scary right now given the current political climate,” Imaduddin says.
“From what I hear, this is the third incident this week in the Houston area involving a Muslim getting shot. This is a community place, we have kids that come here, we have people young and old comes here.”
