Plane Grounded After Mystery Illness Plagues Passengers

UPDATE: 10 To 15 Passengers Got Sick Simultaneously

A Delta flight from Atlanta to Denver had to make an unscheduled landing in Tulsa, Oklahoma, today after numerous passengers reported feeling sick, the airline said.

The crew of Delta Flight 1817 made the decision to divert to Tulsa because of the customers feeling ill, Delta said in a statement this afternoon.

As of this evening, 100 people had been assessed and nine reported having the same symptoms, though officials did not explain what those symptoms were.

One passenger from the flight was hospitalized, but for an unrelated medical emergency, a Delta supervisor on the scene said.

A plane has been diverted to Tulsa International Airport after multiple passengers complained of sickness.

Delta Airlines flight 1817 was traveling to Denver from Atlanta on Saturday when it diverted to Tulsa at about 3 p.m. after the passengers apparently became ill at the same time.

Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman Kelli Bruer says responders with the ambulance service have treated nine passengers suffering similar symptoms, including nausea. Bruer says one passenger was taken to the hospital as “non-emergent.” She says it’s unknown what caused passengers to become ill.

Bruer says another passenger was taken to a hospital for unrelated medical issues.
