The WhiteHouse promoted a study today: Supporting Increasing Food Stamp Benefits!
Did you know that more people are on government entitlement programs today than ever before? Since Barack Obama has been in office the amount of people enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, called “SNAP” (food stamps), has almost doubled! All welfare programs have seen a major rise in public participation recently. This is hurting our country in many ways. Obama even promised free college for Americans in coming years…This will surely lead to lower test scores and fewer graduates landing jobs…but that will be an article for later if the chaos continues. For now, lets look at the facts regarding children’s health and publicly funded food programs.
The White House featured these graphics in there recent press release which called for more SNAP funding. Government dependency is making people weaker, and the evidence in these graphics supports that. When benefits get low participants score lower and demand more help. Participants also seek help through private programs during those times (ie. hospitals). What we are seeing is a shift in the source of dependency.
“Free” food is being blamed for increased hospital visits during certain periods of time.
A study by the “American College of Emergency Physicians” showed that 75% of Emergency Room (ER) doctors report increases in hospital visits. The study was reported on by USA Today. Read about it here.
“Free” food is being blamed for Low Math and Reading Test Scores
If you look at the graph the scores tend to drop immediately after benefits are received and it takes nearly 2 weeks for the scores to increase. The same is for the Reading tests below. So proper diets are being avoided here, and more money is being presented as a solution. If students and parents were taught how to eat better and balance diets, perhaps we would see a different chart.
Remember, Michelle Obama instituted a school lunch program in recent years after a bill passed called Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) of 2010. The amount of food thrown away by children increased by 56%!!!
Could this have something to do with the malnutrition of children? You decide.
Below is a graph that outlines how much money has been invested in public food programs from 1969 to 2015. Since 2010 when the HHFKA passed 15 Billion excess taxpayer dollars has been dumped in to SNAP. Meanwhile, the individual benefits have dropped about 6% the amount of people collecting food stamps has increased by 5 Million people. America was spending 37 Billion on SNAP and total cost to Americans now sits around 74 Billion dollars a year in 2015 (That’s Double.). Yet, President Obama is still pushing for more and more entitlement programs, especially food assistance, and will use any warped study to demand the funds. People need to learn how to be independent and support themselves. Government dependency is hurting our society.
When Obama got into office in 2008 there were roughly 28 Million people on food stamps or similar programs. There are now about 46 Million people on those same programs in 2015.
